Okay you asked for it! This session is a full blown front to back explanation of indexes and indexing in the SQL Server environment. We’ll go over everything from the different types of indexes(including some new ones such as the columnstore) to different scenarios that you would or would not want to use them. Additionally, I’ll give you some practical methods to identify and capture metrics on your indexes in order to give you a starting point to get down and dirty in revving up your environment with a new indexing plan. Should be a good time for all….. and don’t worry, I will leave plenty of scripts behind for you play with!

Arie “AJ” Jones is the Principal Technology Manager for Perpetual Technologies, Inc. (PTI), an Indianapolis based consulting company that specializes in providing mission-critical database and information systems support for SQL Server and Oracle environments nationwide. In his current position, Arie helps to support clients with highly complex business intelligence and application development projects and is also an active speaker at community events across the country. Arie is also an accomplished author, having written several books on the SQL language such as, SQL Functions, Learn SQL in 24 Hours, and Learn SQL in 1 Hour a Day.
